Thanksgiving for Dogs

Thanksgiving is upon us, meaning most of our pups will spend a little more time following us in and out of the kitchen as we prepare our meals. We are here to let you know that sharing some ingredients with them is ok. Knowing which human foods are safe for your dog is vital. Let’s look at some fruits and veggies that are safe and loved by dogs. In the spirit of the season, pumpkin and turkey are first on the list!

  1. Pumpkin – a superfood for dogs. It is excellent for their digestive tract as it removes excess water and offers a good source of fiber.

  2. Turkey (no skin) – a lean meat which makes it healthier to digest. Turkey is packed with protein and low fat. Turkey can be helpful specifically for dogs needing to lose weight.

  3. Carrots – a source of Vitamin A. Carrots support eye health, healthy skin/coat, and supports a thriving immune system.

  4. Apples (no seeds) – another source of Vitamin A as well as Vitamin C. They contribute to keeping your dog’s teeth clean and breath fresh.

  5. Sweet Potatoes – full of antioxidants. Enjoying some sweet potato in their diet supports your dog’s muscle and bone health.

  6. Green Beans – full of vitamins like B6, C, A, and K. They also contain fiber and calories, which are excellent for helping your dog feel full when dieting.

These foods are Thanksgiving staples for most of our tables. It’s a perfect way to treat your fur babies to some healthy people food while preparing all your favorites. As with everything, moderation is key. If you are wondering what portions are best for your dog, speaking with your Vet is always recommended.

We hope that you and your pets get to enjoy all the things you love during this holiday season! Leave us a comment and share your dog’s favorite human food snack!
