Holistic Care Solutions for Your Dog

Hello, there, TLDOM family! We hope your and your pet’s new year is off to a great start. Health and wellness for your pets are things we hold in high regard. Our last blog discussed those pesky seasonal allergies and some solutions to relieve your pet. Staying in that same vein, let’s look deeper into holistic medical solutions.

Some pet owners choose to go the holistic route when treating their animals for various conditions because it is known to be gentler on their bodies.

These are a few conditions that could be treated holistically.

1. Anxiety – Anxiety can show up in your pets in ways like aggressive behavior, change in appetite, and shedding. You may notice these things if their environment or routine has changed. Some ways to treat your cat or dog are:

a. Hiring a behavioral therapist

b. Physical and mental exercise – regular walks, enrichment toys

c. Create a safe space for your pet to retreat to – one that houses all things comfortable with their favorite toys.

2. Diarrhea (dogs)

a. Boiled chicken and rice

b. Pumpkin

c. Ginger

d. Plain Yogurt

3. Skin allergies (dogs)

a. Aloe Vera

b. Coconut Oil – ingested or applied

c. Apple Cider Vinegar – 50% vinegar and 50% water in a spray bottle

4. Car sickness (dogs)

a. Chamomile or Lavender – apply a little oil on a cotton ball and put it in your car for 30 minutes.

It’s important to be cautious when using essential oils, as most are highly concentrated and can cause liver or kidney complications. Consulting your vet for guidance is always recommended.  If you’re trying a new holistic remedy to treat your animal’s condition, watch them closely for adverse reactions. We encourage you to explore other holistic solutions to meet your pet’s needs. Bonding activities such as “Doga” (dog yoga) are healthy for you and your pet, enhancing sleep, reducing inflammation, and encouraging relaxation.
