Black Biz Interview: Supa Paws Pet Grooming

There has been so much support for black owned businesses over the past few weeks, and we cannot thank everyone enough for the support! We have always believed in supporting other black owned businesses and are honored to share more black businesses within the pet community. This is an industry where we don’t see a lot of black owned businesses, especially in Austin. So, we were glad to connect with Angelia Dawson, owner of Supa Paws Pet Grooming. Read below to learn more about her and her Austin based pet grooming business, and visit the website to book!

What made you start your business?

I was starting to lose my love for my craft. I started questioning why I was so willing to break myself down physically and mentally for someone else’s business. I had the clientele and the motivation, so I jumped and did it!

What is your experience in your field of work?

I have been in the grooming business for 10 years now but have 15 years’ experience working with animals. When I was a teenager, I did a lot of rescue and volunteer work.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job would be knowing that I am helping these pets feel comfortable and to see the smiles on my clients faces when they see how cute their fur baby looks.

What is the best thing about being a black owned business?

Everything! As a black woman I can show the world what we are capable of.

What advice would you give a pet owner looking for a new groomer?

Ask them all the questions they feel they need to ask to make themselves comfortable in leaving their pet with the groomer! A huge part in grooming is trust, so trust in your instincts and ask all the questions to help you get to the point of trusting them. Any good groomer will not mind!

What makes your service standout from the rest?

I specialize in rehabilitating dogs, helping them learn that being groomed is okay and not something to be afraid of.
